It would seem that everything that architects could surprise in terms of original golf course designs has already surprised. In the most unexpected corners of the world there are places chosen as the territory for the game. The imagination simply has nowhere to go. However, the enterprising developers in search of an answer to the question “Where else were the courses?”, came to an original conclusion – “on the water.”

So, in the Maldives, in the Indian Ocean, the first ever golf course on the water is planned to be built by 2015.

At first glance it may seem that the project is too large-scale and bold by design. But the authors are convinced that its implementation will not harm the environment, because solar energy, which is in abundance in the Maldives, will be the main source of energy for the course. Moreover, it is expected to use innovative cooling and desalination technologies.

The course will be 3-4-hole floating platforms. The total number of holes – 18. Connect between each other and the hotels should be underwater tunnels.

Republic of Maldives is located on coral islands. The highest point of the land is critically low to the water – at a height of 2.3 m. If as a result of climate change the water level on the planet will reach this index – the Maldives will face hard times, taking into account direct dependence of economy on tourism. President of the Republic Mohamed Nasheed said that the state plans to buy land in other countries, in case the situation becomes critical and residents will have to look for new housing, leaving the flooded islands.

In order to realize such grand plans, the country is looking for new ways to replenish the state treasury. A new golf course is planned to build near the international airport of Male’ (5 minutes from it). For passengers, it will be a great opportunity to spend an exciting time playing golf while waiting for a flight. According to preliminary data, the cost of the project will be $ 500 million.
